, she had told us that she plans to bring the spotlight on Free A Girl, the campaign that she spearheads that works towards rehabilitating girls rescued from prostitution and flesh trade rackets. The girls are provided shelter and education that can help them procure a degree in law and enable them to save others from falling prey to prostitution. For this, Mallika locked herself up in a tiny cage to draw attention to the plight of young girls being forced into skin trade year on year in India.

I was locked inside a cage to bring attention to the plight of these little girls who are forced into flesh trade and are taken through hell when they’re in it and when they’re freed from it. I stayed locked in a really small cage to drive home the imagery of what that bondage looks and feels like. It was a huge success and we collected some money which can help the rescued girls find a new lease of life. And fashion-wise, there was no faux pas. It was all good.”

Ask her how she romances the rains in the city, and the actress says, “I love the monsoon, it’s the best weather according to me in Mumbai. How do I romance it? By having those yummy samosas at the restaurant inside ISKCON. It has 800 calories but we can ignore that for now. It’s also important to just walk on the beach because it’s warm for the rest of the year.”
