Rani Mukerji is back in uniform as she returns as the no-nonsense cop Shivani Shivaji Roy in 'Mardaani 3'. After a 6-year wait, the actress returns to the franchise in full fighting form, to give fans another hard-hitting, issue-driven film that turns the mirror on another brutal reality of society.The trailer, released earlier this January, sets a grim tone from the new chapter in the saga. The clip shows Shivani in a race against time as the officer takes on a ruthless child-trafficking network responsible for the abduction of multiple girls. The pursuit pushes Shivani to her limits in a relentless fight for justice.Leading up to the film's release, Rani has described it as an important step towards raising awareness and strengthening the message of women’s empowerment. Urging women and young girls to watch the film, she also asked them to draw inspiration from its story of resilience and hope.The first instalment of the 'Mardaani' franchise was released in 2014. It featured Rani, Jisshu Sengupta, Tahir Raj Bhasin, and Anant Vidhaat Sharma in supporting roles and exposed the grim realities of human trafficking. The second film that hit the screens in 2019 explored the disturbing psyche of a serial rapist who challenged the system. It was directed by Gopi Puthran.'Mardaani 3' introduces fans to a formidable new villain in Mallika Prasad’s ‘Amma’. Janaki Bodiwala, known for her role in 'Shaitaan', also joins the franchise in a pivotal role. The film is written by Aayush Gupta of 'The Railway Men' fame. 'Mardaani 3' is set for a worldwide theatrical release on Friday, January 30.
