Nushrratt Bharuccha recently opened up about her financial struggles during college and how they shaped her approach to money management even today. Admitting she's “not very good” at managing finances, the Dream Girl star shared that she follows a strict savings-first approach.
“I decided early on how much I needed monthly for basics. Anything above that went straight to investments and savings. My accountants directly send the rest to my wealth advisors,” she told Bollywood Bubble.
‘I didn’t want to spend my dad’s money’ Reflecting on why she adopted this mindset, she added, “It scares me because my father is close to 70, my mom is 62, and my grandmother is 92. I need to be prepared for anything, so I’ve consciously shrunk my world to keep that backup pool ready.”
Recalling her student days at Jai Hind College, Nushrratt revealed how financial hardships at home shaped her mentality. “My father was cheated in business, and I didn’t want to burden him. I used to spend only Rs 8 a day—Rs 4 for the bus to college and Rs 4 to get back. I wouldn’t eat, just drink water from the college coolers.”
Financial fears to financial freedomShe remembered skipping meals even during social outings, once sitting through a full dinner at a Bandra restaurant without ordering anything. “I had only a fresh lime soda. It wasn’t that I didn’t have money, but I didn’t want to spend it. I had that strong urge to save.”
Today, despite a successful career in Bollywood, Nushrratt admits that early conditioning still affects her. “Even now, I don’t look at price tags or bills often, but that thought does come to mind. I’ve lived on Rs 8 a day and only water. Now that I earn, I still think about saving for a rainy day.”
