Times Entertainment’s Power Creator Awards - Women's Edition not only celebrated women but also gave them a platform to have insightful conversations. During one of the conversations, Indian actress
Sayani Gupta delved into the significant shift in viewing habits driven by the rise of OTT platforms, while giving a beautiful shout-out to the BAFTA-winning movie ‘Boong.’
Read on to know what exactly Sayani Gupta said on the shift in viewership and the rise of OTT
Drawing attention to the evolving landscape of storytelling, Sayani said, “Overall, there is a shift in the sentiment across the globe. And the reason why there are certain kinds of films and shows that are being watched is actually that similar to the time we live in. And I genuinely think that we need things that are more empathetic, which children can watch, sensitive and beautiful and joyous and full of life.”
Giving an example of ‘Boong’, she continued, “But those kinds of things are not really being made or are not of interest. People are not really watching it, right? For example, a film called ‘Boong’ has just been released. How many of you believe that how many of us are actually going to watch it? It's a beautiful film about a little boy, his friends and his mother.”
The ‘Jolly LLB 2’ actress then mentioned, “It's my favourite film. That's just one part of it. And a big shout-out to them. But normally people are actually going to theatres and watching this beautiful, beautiful film. But there are other films which are extremely masculine, which are doing well for some reason, right?”
“So I think as viewers, we need to take the onus of going and putting our money where our mouth is,” she concluded.
