Prakash Kaur once reacted to Dharmendra being called 'womaniser' after his second marriage with Hema Malini: 'All heroes are having affairs...'
Prakash Kaur, Dharmendra’s first wife, once spoke out in his defense after the actor faced criticism and was labelled a 'womaniser' following his second marriage to Hema Malini. Despite the controversy, she expressed admiration for him as a husband and father, offering rare insights into the complex dynamics of Bollywood’s first family.
In a 1981 interview with Stardust, Prakash defended her husband, saying that any man might have been drawn to Hema Malini over her. She also questioned the hypocrisy of critics, asking how anyone could call Dharmendra a "womaniser" when many in the film industry behaved similarly.
She added that while Dharmendra might not be the perfect husband, he treats her well and is an exceptional father. She noted that all heroes have affairs and sometimes remarry, but he never neglects his children, who love him deeply.
Speaking about Hema Malini, she said she could understand the challenges Hema faced dealing with the world, her relatives, and friends. However, as a wife and mother, she did not approve of Hema’s actions, even though she empathized with her feelings as a woman.
Despite Dharmendra’s second marriage, Kaur expressed her unwavering respect for him. She said he remains the first and last man in her life and the father of her children. Accepting his second marriage as part of her destiny, she acknowledged his constant support and said she will continue to hold him in high regard as both a person and a parent.
Meanwhile, Dharmendra and Hema Malini have two daughters from their marriage: Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.
