Prakash Saini: Films have the power to educate the masses about women welfare

Writer and director Prakash Saini who is known for films like 'Chal Bhaag', 'Meri Padosan' has always been vocal about subjects that are close to his heart. In conversation with us, he expressed how cinema has an influence over the audience, and if its used to narrate right kind of tales, it can be a very powerful means of communication. Talking about women rights, he says.if more films are made on promoting women's rights in India, it will be a good thing.
"Safety and security of women has become a rising issue in the country, especially in rural India. So many girls who are abused don't get the safe space to come out and speak. They don't get to ask for their rights even in a democratic country like India. I personally feel more films should be made for protecting and promoting women's rights, which can help them be strong and fight against the society and fake rituals" says the filmmaker.
Prakash Saini along with film maker Ashok Kumar Sharma is gearing up for his upcoming movie 'Tale of Rising Rani' which is a social take for women in India. He tells, "My upcoming movie will be about promoting women security. The story revolves around a girl child and her fight with the system and to get justice for her cousin sister the story is set in the backdrop of rural India where these incidents go unnoticed and also the girl child does not get justice, based on the true incidents and an unjust panchayat system. The story is about how the life of an innocent girl gets shattered, the characters in the film are played by the locals. The film has officially been screened in various festivals and is the winner of major festivals."

He also says more TV shows and movies need to be written on such issues, "TV shows, films and media is the biggest way to make people aware. More such films should be made to educate our country and make it safe for women."
