Pratibha Ranta of 'Laapata Ladies’ features in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut OTT show

After a gap of nearly 14 years Kiran Rao returned to the director’s chair with Laapataa Ladies, the film recently completed 50 days at the box office minting more than Rs 17 crore. The film tells the story of two young brides who lose themselves during a train ride. Kiran specifically chose young actors like Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Srivastav and Pratibha Ranta for the film and each one of them received a lot of praise for their performance.

It is a common saying in the film industry for an actor that your first film chooses you but after that, the actor chooses the film. And ETimes has learnt that Pratibha Ranta, who played the fiery role of Jaya in Laapataa Ladies, has also featured in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut OTT show Heeramandi - The Diamond Market.

In the show, she is seen essaying the role of Shama, courtesan Sanjeeda Sheikh’s daughter. In the narrative, she is very keen on becoming a courtesan, but her mother is against this decision. Sanjeeda even tries to conceal her daughter's youth from the Madam of the house, played by Manisha Koirala. It seems like Pratibha had signed up for this series much before and then went on to feature in Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies.

Heeramandi - The Diamond Market has been getting mixed reviews from fans and critics and it will be interesting to see how her career shapes up after having a good year with a hit show and an impactful film.
