Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt created cinematic history together, most memorably with their iconic film 'Mother India'. Their love story remains one of Bollywood’s most cherished. As parents to actor
Sanjay Dutt, Namrata Dutt and Priya Dutt, the couple built a legacy that continues to inspire. On December 12, that legacy returns to the spotlight through Yaadon Ki Geetmala – Down Memory Lane, a musical tribute to the legendary duo.
How Priya Dutt reacted when approached
When organiser Deepak Kapadia approached Priya Dutt with the idea of a musical tribute, she wasn’t sure whether audiences would connect with her parents’ classic songs. Speaking to mid-day, she said, “Initially I was wary whether the concert would draw in people. I thought to myself that not many would identify with these songs, but the organisers were convinced that they had hit the right notes, and then I was too.”
Her thoughts on supporting underprivileged patients
The concert will also raise funds for the Nargis Dutt Foundation, which has been supporting cancer patients since 1981. Priya shared, “We started working in the education space in 2012, though cancer remains front and centre. My next passion is to start an animal welfare fund.” Her words reflect how the event not only celebrates music but also strengthens a cause deeply tied to her family’s values.
What the organiser shared
Kapadia revealed that while planning a programme to benefit cancer patients, the Nargis Dutt Foundation naturally came to mind. His meeting with Priya eventually transformed the idea into a full-fledged tribute. “I met Priya Dutt, and gradually we went from an idea to an event. We have a robust response already. People on wheelchairs are asking me if they can attend the concert,” he said.
Event details: when, where, and what to expect
The concert will take place on December 12 at 7 pm at the Nehru Auditorium in Worli. Six singers will bring the timeless melodies of Sunil and Nargis Dutt back to life, while rare photographs will showcase memorable moments from their personal and professional journey. Veteran actress Waheeda Rehman and cancer survivor Manisha Koirala are expected to attend the event.
