Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently explained why she avoids any kind of political commentary on social media, despite her massive following. Known for sharing glimpses of her personal life with husband Nick Jonas and daughter Malti Marie, Chopra said she prefers to keep her online presence focused on joy, work, and authenticity not politics.
Why she stays away from political commentary
In a recent interview with Esquire India, Priyanka Chopra opened up about her approach to social media, saying she enjoys using it to share personal moments and things that make her happy. She sees it as a reflection of who she is and where she is in life — or at least the best version of it — and likes to have fun with it.
The actress also shared that while she enjoys using social media to highlight her work and personal joys, she consciously avoids engaging in political discourse online. She explained that she prefers to leave such conversations to those well-informed about policy matters, adding that as an actor, she chooses to stay focused on her craft.
Her comments come amid growing expectations for celebrities to speak out on global issues. Chopra's position shows a want to go beyond performative activism and instead concentrate on fields where she feels truly knowledgeable and effective.
On playing the “muscle” in ‘Heads of state’
Chopra also discussed her role in ‘Heads of State,’ a political action comedy starring John Cena and Idris Elba. She noted that her character was originally written for a man, and director Ilya Naishuller wanted the “muscle” of the film to be a woman she said, “I felt lucky helming that part in such a fun movie and to be able to play a role shoulder to shoulder with action-comedy greats like John Cena and Idris Elba. Plus, we shot it in the South of France and London. So, what’s not to like?”
