Rahul Gandhi pays tribute to Zubeen Garg in Assam; Singapore police give MAJOR update in singer’s death probe

Zubeen Garg tragically passed away on September 19 while swimming off St John’s Island in Singapore, and his supporters have been demanding justice ever since. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has now revealed that the investigation into the celebrated Assamese singer’s drowning may take up to three more months to conclude.

Singapore police say investigation may take months

As reported by PTI, the SPF said its investigations into Garg's death "may take up to another three months or so". Once the investigations are completed, the findings will be submitted to the State Coroner, who will determine whether to hold a Coroner’s Inquiry (CI). A Coroner's Inquiry is a fact-finding process led by a judicial officer to establish the cause and circumstances of death. The findings of the inquiry are made public once the process concludes.


The SPF also shared a copy of Garg’s autopsy report and preliminary findings with the High Commission of India on October 1, upon request.

Police emphasise patience and transparency in probe

The police highlighted their commitment to a thorough and professional investigation. “We seek the patience and understanding of the parties involved. Meanwhile, we urge the public not to speculate and spread unverified information,” they said. Preliminary investigations have not indicated any foul play in Garg’s death.

The SPF also warned against online rumours, noting it is aware of "speculation and false information circulating online" regarding the circumstances of the singer’s drowning.

Rahul Gandhi visits cremation site to pay tribute

On Friday, politician Rahul Gandhi visited Sonapur, on the outskirts of Guwahati, to pay tribute at the site where Zubeen Garg’s last rites were performed. Gandhi offered a 'gamosa', the traditional Assamese scarf, and a wreath at the platform where the singer was cremated. “The sooner the truth comes out, the better in Zubeen Garg’s case, as the family needs closure,” Gandhi said after visiting the singer’s family at their Kahilipara residence.

Gandhi added that it is the duty of the Assam government to “transparently investigate and tell the family exactly what happened in Singapore”. “The family has lost Zubeen, and they only want the truth to come out,” Gandhi said.

Assam Police arrests seven individuals in case

According to a PTI report, since October 1, the Assam Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested seven individuals in connection with Zubeen Garg’s death. All have been remanded to judicial custody. The SIT continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the singer’s demise to ensure clarity for the family and his fans.
