When Mumtaz decided to leave Hindi films and marry Ugandan businessman Mayur Madhvani, many people said Rajesh Khanna was very sad. Decades later, Mumtaz spoke about this in an past interview with Pinkvilla.
She said, "People say so though I wasn’t here. Kaka was too proud a man to say it on my face. But people close to him told me that when I got married and left India, Kaka said, ‘I have lost my right hand!’ Apparently, he missed me a lot because we clicked so well and made such a great pair."
Mumtaz remembers Rajesh Khanna after his demise
Mumtaz also shared her feelings when Rajesh Khanna passed away in 2012. She said she was very sad to hear about his death. She added that his family had taken good care of him, and even now, when she sees his films on TV, she misses him a lot. She added, "The family looked after Kaka extremely well. Even I miss him. When I happen to watch him on TV, I wonder kyun itni jaldi chale gaye."
Mumtaz married Mayur Madhvani in 1974 and decided to focus on her family instead of acting. The couple has two daughters, Tanya and Natasha. On the other hand Rajesh Khanna married actress
Dimple Kapadia, and they had two daughters, Twinkle and Rinke. Kaka passed away in 2012.
