However, the amount allegedly remained unpaid as the film failed at the box office, prompting the lender to initiate legal proceedings. Over the years, the case went through multiple hearings, with the court directing repayment and seeking compliance with its orders. When the dues were not cleared within the stipulated time, the court took a strict view of the matter.
In 2018, following non-compliance with a court directive in the cheque bounce case, Rajpal Yadav was sentenced and subsequently sent to Tihar Jail to serve a brief term. The development had shocked many in the film fraternity, given the actor’s reputation as a beloved comic performer.
In the same case, the actor was again was asked to surrender at the Tihar Jail on February 6, 2026.
The current proceedings revolve around legal relief and adherence to previous court orders. With the bail plea coming up for hearing today, both the prosecution and defense are expected to present their submissions before the court decides the next course of action.
