The trailer for 'Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama' is finally here and it has Indian fans buzzing with excitement.
The animated film, originally released in 1993, is set for its much-anticipated release in 4K on January 24. Farhan Akhtar on Friday, got the excitement going by posting the clip online with a note inviting fans to "Experience India’s most beloved epic on the big screen, for the first time in 4K!"
The 2.11 minute trailer quickly went viral and raked in over 300K views in just 3 hours. The clip was released with a synopsis that read, "Prince Rama of Ayodhya must draw on his inner strength and gather allies to rescue his beloved Sita when the demon king Ravan kidnaps her and imprisons her in the kingdom of Lanka. A timeless tale of heroism and honour, this film is a visual blend of Japanese and Indian animation traditions. Based on Valmiki’s Ramayana."
While many are thrilled to revisit the beloved tale, a significant number of viewers have taken to the comments section to question the decision to change the Hindi voice actors in this updated release.
The original Hindi voice cast, featured iconic actors like Arun Govil as Rama, Amrish Puri as Ravana and Dilip Sinha as Hanuman
among other icons in pivotal roles. The voices were integral to the film’s cultural resonance, hence the decision to bring in new talent has fans asking, "Why the voices are changed?"
One remarked, "The old dubbing was perfect to core!"
Another said, "New wali dubbing bhi achchi hem..but purani wali dubbing bahot achchi thi."
Another started a petition saying, " Please Bring Back Arun Govil & Amrish Puri Voice."
"I wish they have kept the original voiceover. Amrish Puri as Ravana was Gold. And Arun Govil as Shri Ram was fire," said another.
Still another said with crying smillies, "Amrish Puri voice as Ravan will be missed."
Widely celebrated as a masterpiece of animation, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama was a collaborative effort between Indian and Japanese filmmakers, with its original release praised for its visual artistry and faithful retelling of the epic. The new trailer promises enhanced visuals and a modern cinematic experience.
Set to release in cinemas on January 24, 2025, the film will enjoy a wide release in Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu.
