'Ranbir Kapoor called Raha his 'dal chawal', says his Ramayana co-star Indira Krishnan while speaking about how simple he is as a father
Ranbir Kapoor is all set to play Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming epic Ramayana, and his co-star Indira Krishnan recently talked about her bond with the actor in an interview.
While speaking to NDTV, Indira, who plays Ram’s mother Kaushalya in the film, opened up about the strong bond she shares with Ranbir off screen. Ranbir’s humility, kindness, and fatherhood made the strongest impact on her.
Indira reveals how simple Ranbir Kapoor is as a father
Indira called him her ‘favourite co-star’ and recalled how Ranbir brought a sense of comfort and camaraderie to the set. “I’ve never seen a star of his stature treat people the way he does. He would pull up a chair for me, check in on how my day was going, and engage in warm, thoughtful conversations. It never felt like we were working with a superstar—he’s so grounded,” she added.
She was especially moved by the way he spoke about his daughter, Raha. “He told me, ‘Raha is my dal chawal.’ The simplicity and affection in the way he spoke about his daughter—it stayed with me,” she shared.
Ranbir Kapoor asked her about good books her son read while growing up
She further recalled how Ranbir frequently asked about the books her son, Anirudh, used to enjoy when he was a kid so that he could find the same for little Raha. He used to eagerly ask her whether she had brought the book for Raha.
Ranbir also formed a special bond with her son Anirudh. Indira shared that they both used to sit in his vanity van for hours and talk about everything from board exams to parenting advice.
The Animal actor once showed up to shoot with a limp, and when she inquired, he smiled and said, “There was a race, Indira ji… I ran for Raha. And I came first.” Despite pulling a muscle, he arrived for the shoot.
Ramayana also features Sai Pallavi, Lara Dutta, and Yash in key roles.
