The promos of Anupam Kher’s directorial venture Om Jai Jagadish are out and of the trinity of Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan and Abhishek Bachchan; it’s the tall guy who is getting all the attention.
Chotta B’s look and style is earning him rave reviews from the fairer sex who seem to be coming out of the Hrithik induced trance.
Even the current trends in Bollywood indicate that Hrithik’s loss is Aby’s baby’s gain.
For how else can you explain the sudden rise of Bachchan Jr’s stocks in tinselville? In a span of a few days itself, the brooding actor has signed plum projects, namely Ram Gopal Varma’s horror flick Bhoot, with Urmila and Rekha (of all people) and Madhur Bhandarkar’s next after the critically acclaimed Chandni Bar. This film will most likely pair him opposite real-life sweetheart Karisma.
Something tells us that year 2K+2 will just about be Abhishek’s year since the actor has some top-of-the line films lined up for release. After Om Jai Jagadish, he will be seen in Rohan (son of Ramesh ‘Sholay’ Sippy) Sippy’s romantic love story Kuch Na Kaho. Giving him company in this Mills and Boontype romance will be the Ish girl Aishwarya Rai. Those who have seen the preview of the film are raving about the duo’s chemistry which is on the right track after the disastrous Dhai Akshar Prem Ke. The Refugee will also be seen in JP Dutta’s 11-hero epic LOC and Mahesh Manjrekar’s next with Big B and Akshay Kumar. Interestingly, the father-son jodi will also be visible in two more films from the stable of AB Corp directed by Rakesh Aks Mehra and Vipul Aankhen Shah.
The icing on the cake becomes sweeter for Abhishek with Sooraj Barjatya’s Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon and Boney Kapoor’s Dil Chor. Both the films incidentally star Kareena Kapoor opposite him. The going is so good for him right now that distributors are even game for releasing Sharaarat, a small budget film which had been rotting in the cans for a good year’s time.
Bollywood seems to have quickly forgiven and forgotten Abhishek’s earlier releases and looks all too ready crown him the BO king. One elusive hit is what he needs... Will he or won’t he?
harneet_singh@indiatimes.com
