Remo D'Souza, Ayan Mukerji, Prabhudheva: Directors who made a cameo in their films

In an industry that encourages creativity, it is possible for one person to wear many hats. And while they may specialise in one particular department to their bread-and-butter, nothing stops them from delving into another from time to time. We have seen several actors don the director's hat to call the shots. Let's now take a look at directors who traded their place behind the camera for a few moments in front of it:

2/8

Subhash Ghai

The man behind iconic films like ‘Ram Lakhan’, ‘Taal’, ‘Pardes’, ‘Yaadein’, Subhash Ghai has always had a cameo in all his films. So much so, that his blink-and-miss appearances are now his signature touch in a film. For instance, in ‘Ram Lakhan’, the filmmaker can be spotted in the song ‘Tera Naam Liya’ where Jackie Shroff is trying to convince Dimple Kapadia.

3/8

Anurag Kashyap

Anurag Kashyap has, to his credit, some sizable roles in his films. From playing an ISI agent in ‘Black Friday’, to doubling up as one of Kalki Koechlin’s clients in ‘Dev D’, Anurag has proved his mettle as an actor time and again.

4/8

Remo D'Souza

Remo D’Souza made his directorial debut with ‘F.A.L.T.U’ and also appeared in a cameo role in the film. Apart from this, he was seen in ‘ABCD’, shaking a leg to, ‘Psycho Re’ alongside Prabhudheva, Ganesh Acharya and Saroj Khan. The choreographer-turned-filmmaker also appeared in ‘ABCD 2’ where he played himself.

5/8

Madhur Bhandarkar

Madhur Bhandarkar is known for hard-hitting films like ‘Page 3’, ‘Corporate’, ‘Fashion’, ‘Heroine’ among others. While he doesn't make a habit of it, the filmmaker did face the camera in Kangana Ranaut and Priyanka Chopra-starrer ‘Fashion’. He played the role of a filmmaker researching about the fashion industry much like he did in real life for the same film.

6/8

Ayan Mukerji

Ayan Mukerji made a special appearance in his second film, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ starring Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin, and Aditya Roy Kapur. In one of the scenes, Ayan can be seen crooning the song ‘Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein’ with Ranbir. The filmmaker was also a part of ‘Badtameez Dil’.

7/8

Anurag Basu

With films like, ‘Life in a... Metro’, ‘Kites’, ‘Gangster’, ‘Murder’, ‘Barfi!', Anurag Basu has proved his mettle as a director. The filmmaker recently also made a brief appearance in his film ‘Ludo’. He played the narrator who strings together the stories featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Pankaj Tripathi, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanya Malhotra, Rajkummar Rao, and Fatima Sana Shaikh.

8/8

Prabhudheva

Prabhudheva may have gone behind the camera but he makes sure that he offers his fans a treat by dancing his heart out for songs in his films. The choreographer-turned-director has often been seen shaking a leg in most of his directorial ventures like 'Rowdy Rathore', 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya', 'R... Rajkumar', 'Action Jackson', 'Singh is Bling', and ‘Dabangg 3’.
