'Saand Ki Aankh' to 'Fashion': Five films with two-heroines in the lead

On-screen bromances are a thing of the past as it is now time for Bollywood’s biggest actress to come together for film projects. There may have been a time when cat-fights made headlines, but this new breed of powerful and influential young ladies, are letting their work do the talking and boy are they impressive!

Not only are these actress stars in their own right, but they seem to have no qualms making some extra room to share the frame with their fellow female co-stars. With Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar all set to present their tale of sisterly love, we take a look at some of the best two-heroin lead films.

Saand Ki Aankh

Ageism debate aside, Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar are all set to present their ambitious project, 'Saand Ki Aankh'. The biographical film that traces a certain part of the lives of India’s oldest sharpshooters, Prakashi Tomar and Chandro Tomar, is said to have quite an inspiring message that has had celebs, filmmakers and critics going gaga over it. You too can catch in on the inspiring true-life story when the film hits theatres nationwide today, 24 October.

Bajirao Mastani

It has been over 4 years since director Sanjay Leela Bhansali released his magnum opus ‘Bajirao Mastani’, but it is still hard to get over the visual splendour the film had to offer. Starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in the lead, his ‘fictional’ tale became something more than just an ordinary love story with a messy love triangle, and we all had Deepika and Priyanka to thank. The two power-houses of talent brought on their A-game in every frame with their stellar acts and even their epic dance sequence.

4/6

Barfi

Ranbir Kapoor was the star of the multi-award-winning film ‘Barfi’, but it was those silent exchanges between Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz that only added to the narrative. The beauties had enough scenes together that took viewers on an emotional rollercoaster ride of love, longings and letting go.

5/6

Cocktail

In the coming of age movie Cocktail, revolved around the lives of 3 young individuals, trying to define relationships in their lives. The easy-breezy story gets complicated when a love triangle is introduced that pitted Deepika Padukone against Diana Penty as they fought for Saif Ali Khan’s attention. Despite the mundane plot, Deepika was seen essaying the role of a feisty, confident and liberated young lady while Diana played the opposite. The two girls find themselves pitted against each other when they are made to choose between love and friendship. Fans lauded the film as one of the best works of the actresses.

6/6

Fashion

‘Fashion’, starring Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut in lead roles, was a mixed bag of complexities and harsh realities that faced aspiring young models trying to make it large. The film featured Priyanka as the bidding star and had Kangana playing the tainted and tormented supermodel on a downward spiral. Watching the two share the screen was a treat to any film buff. So great was their performances that it not only was a box office hit but also went on to get Kangana her first National Award win for the Best Actress in a supporting role.
