Saif Ali Khan says he can be emotionally needy, opens up on marriage with Kareena Kapoor: 'Lucky that we are on the same page'
Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor tied the knot in 2012. The duo fell in love as they worked together on the sets of 'Tashan'. Before that, Saif was married to Amrita Singh and they divorced in 2014. In a recent interview, Saif opened up on love and relationships and his marriage with Kareena. He revealed that while he has not been lucky in relationships in life always, today he is quite happy and a lot of credit for that goes to his partner Kareena as well. The actor appeared on Soha Ali Khan on her podcast with Kunal Kemmu. During the discussion, Saif said he feels fortunate to be in a stable and fulfilling marriage today. Reflecting on his journey, he admitted that relationships earlier in his life were not always as balanced or satisfying. “I am very lucky that my wife and I have been on the same page,” he said.
Soha recalls how Saif introduced Kareena to her: 'My girlfriend is two years younger than you'
He added that growing older has brought him greater clarity about relationships, while Kareena’s empathy and support have also played a major role in their bond. “Relationship-wise I have not always been lucky or settled or super happy, but I am today for various reasons, my maturity, as well as the kindness and understanding of my partner.”Saif also spoke openly about emotional needs within a relationship, explaining that insecurities often originate from childhood experiences and family dynamics.
According to him, partners sometimes help each other work through those deeper issues. “I can be emotionally needy but it depends… because of the conditioning and the relationship we had with our parents. In a relationship, sometimes your partner helps deal with those issues,” he said.At the same time, he stressed that while independence is important, affection and attention remain essential for a relationship to flourish. “If I am confident and happy in the space I am in, then I am not needy. But I still like a certain amount of attention and affection, otherwise why am I here?”Saif further explained that he does not view marriage as a practical arrangement where two people simply share space like roommates. Instead, he believes a deeper emotional connection is what keeps a partnership meaningful. “I find myself happy in a relationship where both of us want a little bit more. There has to be a certain level of affection, intimacy, something special about the two of you being together and then you can share that with kids.Saif and Kareena have two children - Taimur and Jeh. The actor also has two children from his earlier marriage with Amrita - Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim.
