Hence the inclusion of the number in ‘Ready’, says Bhushan Kumar who clarifies his stand on not giving DSP credit early on Ever since the trailer of “Ready” went on air, composer Pritam and producer Bhushan Kumar have been answering their phones non-stop. Congratulatory messages aside, they’ve been fielding queries regarding the song ‘Dhinka Chika’ being similar to Telugu hit, ‘Ringa Ringa’.
The general assumption has been that composer Pritam ripped off a tune yet again. “Though I have composed the music for “Ready”, I have not done the song ‘Dhinka Chika’. Bhushan roped in Devi Sri Prasad especially for that song,” clarified Pritam. Bhushan Kumar, meanwhile, is quick to come to the rescue of his favorite music director. “The moment people realize Pritam hasn’t done the song, they show no interest. Everybody loves a controversy,” quips Bhushan.
Despite the clarification, the question everyone’s asking is, why wasn’t Devi Sri Prasad given credit for the number? “We were holding on to it for now. We’ve just started the promotions and thought during the initial phase it will be just Salman, Pritam and me. It would have been unfair to Pritam if we had credited DSP even before the song went on air. Pritam has composed for the entire film and DSP has done just this number.”
But now that the whole issue has come to light, Kumar plans an elaborate unveiling of the song. “We will have a proper unveiling of the number in May with DSP,” says Kumar. So how exactly did they zero in on ‘Ringa Ringa’ for “Ready”? “Well, Salman bhai loves the song. Whenever I visited him in his vanity van, this number would be playing constantly. He insisted that we get it for our film as well. That’s when I got in touch with DSP and finalized the song. The rights of ‘Ringa Ringa’ are with another music company but DSP was free to do it in Hindi. So we made a few changes here and there — ‘Dhinka Chika’ instead of ‘Ringa Ringa’,” elaborates Kumar. So, will we see him collaborating with DSP in the near future for a full fledged Hindi flick? “DSP played me some of his numbers and I like his work. He has never done Hindi films before. So I’m giving it some time, maybe there could be something in future,” says Kumar before signing off.
