Fraud FIR, hit-and-run case: Times when Salman Khan was embroiled in legal controversies

Salman Khan and controversies go hand-in-hand. Be it his controversial movies, relationships, or statements – Salman Khan has often found himself making headlines for the wrong reasons. In the past, too, the actor has had several brushes with the law, be it during the blackbuck poaching case, or when he snatched a journalist’s mobile phone. Here’s taking a look at the five times when Salman Khan was embroiled in legal controversies...

2/5

Cheating complaint against Salman

Salman, his sister Alvira Khan, and six others have been summoned by the Chandigarh Police following a complaint of cheating lodged against them by a local businessman. According to PTI, a local businessman named Arun Gupta had filed a complaint stating that he had opened an exclusive store under Salman Khan’s 'Being Human Jewellery' and spent around Rs 2-3 crore in 2018. He stated that he was assured that Salman Khan will promote the brand but nothing of that sort happened and the company officials refused to keep their promise. The complainant further claimed that the office which was to be used for collecting stock was also lying shut since February 2020.

Assault complain against Salman

Salman is a fitness enthusiast and often steps out with his e-cycle, riding on the streets of Mumbai. However, one of his outings landed him in a soup. According to ANI, a television journalist filed a complaint against Salman Khan on charges of abuse, assault, and robbery. His lawyer stated that Salman had snatched the senior journalist’s cell phone and deleted the data in it. The journalist was reportedly trying to capture a video of the actor while he was riding his bicycle and the incident turned ugly when the actor snatched his mobile phone.

Salman’s blackbuck poaching case

Salman was embroiled in a long-standing controversy in a 1998 blackbuck poaching case, which dates back to the shooting of Sooraj Barjatya's ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’. He, along with co-stars Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam and Tabu, was charged under the Wildlife (Protection) Act. Salman was sentenced to five years in jail, but after spending a week behind bars, the same was withdrawn. Earlier this year, the actor got some relief in the blackbuck poaching case when the Jodhpur District and Sessions court dismissed the Rajasthan government's plea against him. The actor had also thanked his fans on social media after the same.

5/5

Salman’s hit-and-run case

Salman faced a difficult time when he was named in a hit-and-run case in September 2002, after his late-night drive ended up in a fatal accident for those sleeping on a sidewalk. A Mumbai sessions court had convicted Salman for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and given him a five-year sentence. But the Bombay HC granted him bail the same day, and later he filed an appeal in the HC against the conviction. In 2015, the Bombay High Court acquitted the actor of all criminal charges.
