The matinee show has already begun. Two girls uneasily amble towards the booking counter, the trepidation visible on their faces.

The man at the counter merely raises his eyebrows and hands over the tickets.
They falter twice when we ask them their age. Though they say that they were born in 1985, one look at their faces is enough to suggest that they are forging their age.

Inside the auditorium, the scene is different. Young couples -- mostly college goers -- get cozy while Himanshu plants a kiss on Mallika’s nape. We spot two boys seated in the second row of the balcony.

Intimate scenes of Mallika bulldozing the grocer for a slash in condom prices keep them glued to the screen. “Are you school students? Innocently they reply in the affirmative. But the moment we ask why they have forged their age to watch an adult film, the two boys take guard.

The alibi is cliched -- they have supposedly given their board exams this year. But even all their attempts to project an image of adulthood is betrayed by their cracking voice.

Some school students have even forged their age mentioned on their school identity cards. “Promos of Khwahish are titillating and so are the juicy reviews. My friends bunked classes and watched the film. They had even added an extra ‘I’ beside class XI to prove that they are 18 in case they were asked to produce age certificates. But they said the film doesn’t have enough sleaze that they would have liked to see, said a class XI student of a reputed south Kolkata school.

Some desperate ones are getting hold of Khwahish VCDs. Of course, their parents don’t have a clue about the sneak show. Response to Khwahish has by far been good as far as hall returns at Elite is concerned. “Recently, a group of students in school uniform weren’t allowed entry. But if these very kids come back in casuals, it’s difficult for us to find out whether they are adults or not. It’s impractical to ask everyone to produce age certificates, said Manas Bhattacharya, the hall manager.

The hero of the film, Himanshu Malik, however, is more than happy with this response in Kolkata. “There is nothing more exciting than forging one’s age and watching an adult film. I am sure these school children are watching it to activate their testosterone. I went to a shopping mall in Mumbai where eight girls came up to me with the request of wanting to hug me! I obliged and they were extremely delighted. But more than the smooches and the open discussion on sex, I guess youngsters are being drawn to the storyline of the film, he said.
