Sharma Joshi reveals how his daughter started 'crying her eyes out' after watching Raju Rastogi's suicide scene in Aamir Khan, R Madhavan starrer '3 Idiots': 'She was just four'
Sharman Joshi rose to fame with Raju Hirani's '3 Idiots,' sharing screen space with Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Boman Irani and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Essaying the role of Raju Rastogi, the coming-of-age comedy film featured a poignant suicide scene. Having survived the jump and hospitalized, Joshi's standout performance courted acclaim from critics and fans alike. In a recent interview, Joshi opened up about the scene and the impact that it had on his daughter who was four years old at the time of the film's release.
Joshi revealed, “Everything was planned to the T, but just me standing there and emoting in one static place wasn’t working for Raju sir. That’s when he decided to keep the cut shots of my sister, father and mother, ending with the shot of the lamp thudding on the wall. Then, with me on the floor with my leg twisted, that had such a great impact."
On the work front, this year, Sharman Joshi was seen in the Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna starrer, 'Sikandar' as Amar. According to Sacnilk, the film earned a collection of Rs. 110.1 crores at the domestic box office and an overseas collection of Rs. 54 crores worldwide.

In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Joshi revealed the details of the scene from '3 Idiots'. The scene shows Joshi's character Raju Rastogi attempting suicide by jumping off from the window of Principal's office, with a knocked off lamp signalling the attempt.Joshi revealed, “Everything was planned to the T, but just me standing there and emoting in one static place wasn’t working for Raju sir. Back in 2009, during the premiere of the film, Joshi revealed that his daughter was just four years old. The scene impacted her as Joshi recalled, “People would call my parents asking if I was doing alright because they didn’t believe so. Not just parents, but so many kids were moved by that scene, including my daughter. She was just four when we were at the premiere, and she started crying her eyes out seeing that scene. Recently, Pinkvilla had reported that the sequel of '3 Idiots' would be titled '4 Idiots' and that the makers are in search for a fourth lead. Additionally, the script has been finalized and the filming is to begin in 2026. The report also stated that the original cast would reprise their roles in this sequel. When asked about the same, Joshi replied, “I so hope that happens, but I have not been informed yet. On more than a couple of occasions, there has been buzz that the 3 Idiots Sequel is happening.
