Shekhar Suman reveals Rekha never hesitated to perform initimate scenes with him during Utsav: 'I’ll forever be indebted to her'

The classic 1984 film Utsav, known for its erotic drama and stellar cast including Rekha and Shekhar Suman, is still remembered for its impactful performances and intimate scenes. As Shekhar Suman prepares for his role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, he took a moment to reflect on his co-star Rekha and their shared experiences during Utsav.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Shekhar lauded Rekha’s professionalism and dedication while reminisced about the shooting days of Utsav. He stated that he had never encountered a more professional actor than her.

Shekhar revealed that despite the numerous intimate scenes they filmed together, Rekha never hesitated to perform physical contact scenes, unlike some other actresses. "She was an absolute professional. I’ll forever be indebted to her," Shekhar remarked, while expressing his admiration for her work ethic.




One incident that left a lasting impression on Shekhar was an Income Tax raid at Rekha's house on the first day of Utsav's shoot. While most actors might have considered leaving, Rekha chose to stay and focus on her work.



"Any other actor would have packed their bags and gone away. She said, ‘Let them do their job, I’ll stay back and do mine’. I was afraid that my world had come crashing down, that she would leave and the film would get cancelled, my dreams would be shattered,” Shekhar recalled.
