Shiamak Davar joins Nitesh Tiwari’s 'Ramayana' starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, 'This will be very different'
The choreographer who once made the nation dance to 'Dil Toh Pagal Hai' is now set to weave his magic into one of Indian cinema’s biggest projects — 'Ramayana'. Renowned dance maestro Shiamak Davar has officially confirmed that he has joined Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated mythological epic, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash.
Shiamak hints at his next big creation
In a chat with Instant Bollywood, Shiamak Davar was asked if he would ever recreate something as iconic as his Dil Toh Pagal Hai choreography. With his trademark smile, he playfully teased, “Abhi yeh jo naya film kar raha hoon woh Dil Toh Pagal Hai nahi hai, woh Ramayana hai. So let’s wait and see what happens.”
Shiamak confirms his involvement
When the interviewer, taken aback, asked if he was actually working on Ramayana, Shiamak laughed and replied,
“Of course, I’m always excited about my films. Yeah, so I’m choreographing it.”
A different kind of project
“Yeah,” and added, “This will be very different, isliye main kar raha hoon.”
Shiamak Davar: The man who changed Bollywood dance
Known as the man who redefined Bollywood choreography in the 1990s, Shiamak Davar made his film debut with the late Yash Chopra’s Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997). The film became a cultural milestone, and his unique dance style instantly stood out.
His journey in film choreography
Shiamak’s work in 'Taal'(1999) further cemented his reputation as a visionary choreographer.
Building a global dance legacy
Beyond films, Shiamak’s dance schools across India have trained countless performers, introducing professional jazz and contemporary dance to mainstream audiences. His influence has gone global as well — from choreographing international concerts to directing grand performances at world events.
Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, 'Ramayana' is a two-part cinematic retelling of the timeless Indian epic. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana, with Sunny Deol and Ravi Dubey playing pivotal roles.
Release timeline
The first part of 'Ramayana' is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 release, while the second part is expected to arrive in 2027.
