‘Baazigar’ also featured Kajol in a leading role and was loosely based on the Hollywood thriller ‘A Kiss Before Dying’. The film revolves around a man seeking revenge on a businessman who destroyed his family, using manipulation and calculated violence to achieve his goal. It stood out for casting Shah Rukh Khan in a negative lead role early in his career, an unconventional move in mainstream Hindi cinema at the time. A major box-office hit, ‘Baazigar’ played a key role in SRK’s rise to stardom. Its music, composed by Anu Malik, was widely popular, and the film earned several accolades.
