The 2000s Bollywood faces who faded away from the big screen

Bollywood has undergone a significant transformation since the 2000s, with shifting audience tastes and evolving storytelling styles. While some actors adapted to the changing landscape, others gradually stepped away from the spotlight. The decade between 2000 and 2010 introduced several memorable faces who once dominated screens and pop culture. However, not all of them managed to sustain long-term careers in the industry. Many chose to explore different paths beyond films. As News18 has mentioned, here’s a look at actors who were once prominent but are now largely absent from mainstream cinema.

2/8

Shiney Ahuja

Shiney Ahuja gained recognition with powerful performances in films like ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ and ‘Gangster’. His acting skills earned him critical acclaim and positioned him as a promising talent. However, his career faced a major setback following legal controversies that emerged in 2009. A case filed by his domestic help brought his rising trajectory to a halt. Since then, he has remained largely absent from mainstream Bollywood. Despite his early success, he never made a significant return. His journey remains one of the most discussed fallouts in the industry.

3/8

Rimi Sen

Rimi Sen became a popular face after her breakthrough in ‘Hungama’, directed by Priyadarshan. She went on to appear in commercially successful films like ‘Dhoom’, ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ and ‘Golmaal: Fun Unlimited’. Known for her comic timing and screen presence, she enjoyed a steady run for a few years. However, she gradually stepped away from acting without attempting a comeback. Unlike many actors, she chose to exit the industry on her own terms. Her decision marked a quiet but definitive shift away from Bollywood. After leaving films, Rimi Sen distanced herself from the limelight and embraced a more private lifestyle. She chose not to remain in the public eye and instead focused on personal growth. Over time, she relocated to Dubai and ventured into a completely different field.

4/8

Uday Chopra

Best remembered for his role as Ali in the ‘Dhoom’ franchise, Uday Chopra was once a regular in Yash Raj Films projects. Despite early visibility, he gradually stepped away from acting. He shifted his focus towards production and international ventures. Over the years, he has maintained a low public profile. His appearances are now limited to occasional events or updates. His journey reflects a transition from acting to behind-the-scenes roles.

5/8

Zayed Khan

Zayed Khan gained popularity with films like ‘Main Hoon Na’, where he played a memorable supporting role. Despite early success, he struggled to maintain momentum in the industry. Over time, his presence in mainstream cinema reduced significantly. He later explored business ventures and selective digital projects. Though he has hinted at making a comeback, it hasn’t materialised in a major way yet. His career reflects the unpredictability of stardom.

6/8

Tusshar Kapoor

Tusshar Kapoor found considerable success in comedy films, particularly the ‘Golmaal’ series. While he remained visible for a long time, he eventually reduced his acting assignments. In recent years, he has shifted focus towards production and entrepreneurship. He runs his own banner, Tusshar Entertainment House, which backed projects like ‘Laxmii’. His transition highlights a move from acting to content creation. He continues to stay connected to the industry in a different capacity.

7/8

Shamita Shetty

Known for films like ‘Mohabbatein’ and ‘Zeher’, Shamita Shetty gradually stepped away from mainstream cinema. While she remained away from films, she returned to the spotlight through reality television. She participated in shows like Bigg Boss OTT and Bigg Boss 15, gaining renewed attention. Despite this, she has not resumed a full-fledged film career. Her appearances remain selective and occasional. She continues to maintain a presence through media and public events.

8/8

Kim Sharma

Kim Sharma, who also appeared in ‘Mohabbatein’, experienced a similar trajectory. Despite early recognition, she could not sustain a long-term career in Bollywood. Over the years, she stepped away from acting and shifted focus to personal ventures. She now maintains a relatively low profile compared to her early years. Her journey mirrors that of several actors from the same era. It reflects how fleeting visibility in the industry can be.
