'Sholay: The Final Cut' re-release final cut X reviews: Netizens get emotional as they miss Dharmendra seeing his chemistry with Amitabh Bachchan, call it a 'masterclass'
The most iconic film of Indian cinema, 'Sholay' has re-released in theatres. This is an emotional moment for fans as it re-released on December 12, days after the demise of legendary actor Dharmendra. The film starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hema Malini as well. Apart from its memorable characters, dialogues, it was Jai Veeru's chemistry and friendship which largely was the film's USP. Called 'Sholay: The Final Cut', the film has been revived in 4k for greater cinematic impact. As it re-released in theatres, here's how netizens have reacted to it. This includes many from the Gen Z who have never watched the film.
When the cult classic returned to theatres, many fans rushed to X (formerly Twitter) to share their excitement and nostalgia. For several viewers, the re-release also felt emotional as it brought back memories of the late Dharmendra. Some users celebrated the film’s legacy, while others went as far as calling it the finest film ever made in Hindi cinema. One fan wrote, "Just finished watching #SholayTheFinalCut...every moment every frame still a masterclass, go watch, this film can never be made again."
Another viewer shared, "One of the biggest entertainer ko big screen pe dekhne ka alag hi mazaa aaya." A third user posted, "#Sholay on the big screen is not just a re-release, it's a history lesson! Gabbar, Jai-Veeru ki dosti, aur woh iconic dialogues. Yeh mazaa miss mat karna!" Someone else added, "#sholay4k one of the best films ever. Such a joy watching it again. #rameshsippy slayed it. The film holds forever." Another fan remembered Dharmendra, writing, "Veeru was truly the soul of Sholay. Every song in the film is iconic, but this one stands out for the beautiful chemistry between Dharam ji and Hema Malini ji. #Dharmendra."
Meanwhile, fans wonder if there'll ever be a sequel to 'Sholay'. In a conversation with Free Press Journal, director Ramesh Sippy spoke about the idea of a sequel and made it clear that he has no interest in making one. He explained that some actors from the original are no longer alive, and their presence cannot be recreated. He said, "Baatein hoti hain iske bare mein, lekin I have never been tempted. What I wanted to make came out right; it does not mean that I have to remake it or follow up with a sequel. One also has to understand the concept of a sequel. Amjad Khan and Sanjeev Kumar have passed away. Then, Amjad’s character was a major one. Sanjeev, shayad fir bhi another person in that getup might have worked, but certainly not Gabbar. You cannot… the disappointment will be there itself. I think I did not find it wise; maybe others think differently. Personally, I think Sholay should not be attempted again."
