Aamir Khan's 'Sitaare Zameen Par' has now released in theatres and while the trailer got a decent response, it's the positive word of mouth that shall play a huge role in the film's box office fate. While one may usually expect a big Aamir Khan starrer to open with big numbers, this one is slightly different. It's made for a different audience and will grow eventually if the public reviews are good.
As per the advance booking report of the film till Thursday night, the movie had sold about 81931 tickets and collected Rs 2.5 crore in the advance bookings, according to Sacnilk. Talking about the expectations from the film on day 1, trade expert Taran Adarsh told ETimes, "I think the start is not going to be like the typical Aamir Khan starrer that we used to see in the past. I think the film will start slow, but will depend on the word of mouth. The start may be in single digits and if the word of mouth is very good, then I think it should cross the double digits on day one, but as of now, it's looking like a single digit opening."
He added, "This is a word of mouth film. This is not a Dhoom or 'Ghajini' that will open with a bang. Now, as I said, it all depends on the public reports. I think Rs 7.5 to 8 crore is what we are looking at."

Remakes are a new canvas for me, will do them all my life: Aamir Khan
He believes in remakes and will make them all his life, says Aamir Khan, whose last film “Laal Singh Chaddha” was an official adaptation of “Forrest Gump” and latest “Sitaare Zameen Par” has been trolled for being a remake of Spanish movie “Campeones”.
The star and filmmaker said he has done over 10 remakes and they have all been superhits except for "Laal Singh Chaddha".
"Like, 'Ghajini' or if I've to start from the beginning of my career then 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak', which is a remake of Romeo and Juliet. So, I have never had a problem till date in remaking because for me, it is a new canvas," Aamir said in a group interview in response to a question from PTI.
"I believe in remakes and I will do it all my life. Whenever I get a good remake, I will do it. Why shouldn't I do it? If you don't want to see it, then don't see it. It's your choice. My choice is to do it, your choice is to watch it," he added.

Director R.S. Prasanna, who is awaiting the release of his upcoming film ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, has shared the details of one his earliest meetings with the Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan.
Aamir essays the lead character in ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, and has also bankrolled the film. Prasanna recently spoke with IANS during an interview, and shared that while he was initially nervous ahead of his first meeting with the superstar, his nervousness waned off, once he started speaking with him. Before he could realise, 8 hours had passed since their meeting began, and progressed through breakfast and lunch breaks.
Speaking with IANS, Prasanna said, “So the first thought that came to my mind was, ‘Who is going to produce it? Who's going to act in it’. And, while thinking of it, within a second, the name Aamir Khan flashed in my mind and luckily they had reached out from their side. I had not met Aamir sir, but we had had some interactions virtually, and I was thinking that this is a story that I think would appeal to Aamir sir”.
The director shared that he was seeing it from the point of view of a fan, as he said, “What I would like to see in an Aamir Khan movie, in this movie all of those, all of those elements were there and there's entertainment, there's humor, there's also something very sensitive and so I felt it had a perfect package to be an Aamir Khan film”.
He further mentioned, “Luckily, Aamir sir also agreed, which I never believed. After my first film, to do my second film with Aamir Khan is a very big thing. I had not banked on it. I thought okay, at least sir will say that, ‘the story is very good, but you won't be able to do it directly’. But he was so kind. He made me comfortable. He made me take over the reins. I came for the first meeting out of fear and we had an eight hour meeting with breakfast and lunch”.

MAI, which represents over 11 cinema chains, operating more than 500 multiplexes and 2,500 screens across India, said Khan’s commitment to the big screen sends a powerful message that “cinemas remain the premier destination for community-driven, immersive storytelling”.

Raj Bansal, a prominent film distributor and director of Entertainment Paradise in Jaipur, said that since most people have not seen the original film, this could work to the advantage of Khan.
“The film is a remake, but 90 per cent of the people have not watched the original film. So, there is a curiosity to watch the film. It is not a regular mass cinema film. It is meant for the family-class audience,” Bansal told PTI.
Khan’s decision to prioritise theatrical release over immediate OTT availability has also been a topic of discussion among industry veterans.
Bansal applauded Khan’s decision and said this move will lure the audience to theatres.
“The film will be a game-changer for Indian cinema because Aamir Khan has decided not to release the film on OTT. I’ve been an advocate of the same thing because the audience is aware that the film will be available on OTT after a few weeks, hence they don’t come to the theatre to watch it,” he said.

'‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ can become a dark horse at the box office'
Distributor-exhibitor Akshay Rathi, who owns theatres in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, said the movie will appeal to urban audiences more.
“The buzz around the film is good because Aamir Khan is one of the true-blue superstars that we’ve in our country. This film seems to be an urban film, and it will appeal largely to the urban multiplex audience... I don’t think it’s a film that will chase a ballistic opening,” Rathi told PTI.
“Dependence on superstars for box office numbers ceases to exist, and we’ve seen that with films like ‘Stree 2’, ‘Chhaava’. However, given the subject and the appeal of ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, it can become a dark horse and keep running for a long time,” he said.
