In an interview with India Today, when asked if creating 'Tumbbad 2’ would be easier due to the positive reception of Maddock's horror-comedy universe, Sohum emphasised the differences between the films. He noted that while the themes might be similar, ‘Tumbbad’ is distinct and stands apart from these other movies.

Sohum also highlighted that ‘Tumbbad’ is unique in its focus on traditional folk tales, or ‘dadi-nani ki kahaniyan’, which sets it apart from other films. He explained that while other movies might incorporate elements of horror or folklore, they do not delve into the same traditional storytelling or time period as ‘Tumbbad’. “They are not making ‘dadi-nani ki kahaniyaan’. Our story is not based in modern times,” he added.

According to Sohum, the film's setting and its inclusion of a demon distinguish it from contemporary narratives. The actor thanked the audience for their strong support of ‘Tumbbad’s re-release, noting its impressive box office performance. This success has motivated Sohum to proceed with the sequel, and he recently announced it with a brief teaser. He mentioned that they are currently in the pre-production stage, finalizing the script, and will seek appropriate backing once this process is complete.

Sohum highlighted that ‘Tumbbad’ is rooted in Maharashtrian folklore and was filmed on location in the state. The project experienced several delays and was briefly shelved, with the script undergoing numerous revisions before Sohum and Aanand L Rai became involved as producers.
'Tumbbad’, directed by Rahi Anil Barve and co-directed by Adesh Prasad, reportedly earned nearly Rs 1.50 crore on its opening day. This is three times its earnings from the original release.
