Sonam Kapoor opens up about PCOS struggles and overcoming body issues in her teenage years

Sonam Kapoor recently opened up candidly about her struggles while growing up with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and its impact on her self-image.

During her appearance at the We The Women summit, she disclosed that she had to deal with hormonal issues that brought on weight gain, facial hair, and acne in her teenage years.

She remembered how these changes led to some undesirable comments from others, who often made jokes about her appearance. Being at a time when beauty was mostly absurd, Sonam was insulted with hurtful remarks; of course, people pointed out her physical changes.

Sonam reflected on that incident and talked about how deeply the comments affected her. "At 16, when you're supposed to be at your best, I struggled with facial hair and acne," she said. "People made rude remarks, and it left me traumatized."

But she vowed that this phase was only for a time, and with each passing day, the symptoms of PCOS gradually decreased as she grew up.

Sonam also acknowledged her inspiration for being a natural beauty from Bollywood actress Kajol. Her mother had shown a photograph of Kajol proudly flaunting a unibrow and challenging all standards of beauty.

The actress found inspiration in Kajol's confidence. She realized that perfect beauty lies in self-acceptance. This was the moment of inspiration for Sonam to feel empowered to stop worrying over flaws and worry less about society's strict standards of beauty.

The fashion icon also spoke about her career in film land, revealing that she was discovered by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, a filmmaker who introduced her to the industry at 17. She served as an assistant director on his 2005 film, Black, to eventually make her acting debut in 'Saawariya' in 2007.
