Sridevi is still considered an icon and Hindi cinema clearly feels a void ever since the actress passed away. Fans still cherish her movies and every character. She was also called the first female superstar of Indian cinema and remained at the top for many years. The actress not only did movies in Hindi but largely made an impact with Tamil and Telugu films also. However, Sridevi wasn't just known for her strong characters on-screen but also her strength off-screen and bold attitude in doing things on her own terms. The actress was always clear about what she feels comfortable doing onscreen and once when she was cheated by a directed, she had sued him. The actress was shooting for a film called 'Guru' with Mithun Chakraborty. She had to share a kiss with him in the film but she had refused to do so. The actress was not willing to do a kissing scene on screen. While Mithun was understanding of it, the director of the film, Umesh Mehra did not agree to it. Eventually, there was a kissing scene in the film and the director claimed that Sridevi had done it.

Sridevi's mother had reacted to the controversy at that time and she said, "Umesh Mehra has cheated us. We refused to give the kiss right from the beginning, so he took some extras and shot the scene. He cannot do that. It is not allowed. To hell with how he gets extras to do anything and show it as if Sridevi has done it! Tell him to remove the scene from the film and we will allow the film to be released."Later, in an interview, even Sridevi had said, "The kissing problem of Guru was a nightmare. Someone else's lips were used for a kiss even though I had said I wouldn’t allow this to be done by a stand-in. My parents saw the film and were very upset. And the director, Umesh Mehra, even claimed that I had actually done the kissing scene. That has been my worst experience in the film industry. I'm not sure why I should kiss someone I don't know. Others can do it but I can't."
