Sanjay Surkar, the four-time national award winning director of critically acclaimed and commercially successful Marathi films like “Chowkat Raja”, “Tu Tithe Me”, “Aapli Manasa” and “Satchya Aat Gharat” is making his debut in Hindi cinema with BRC Productions’ “Stand By”.Sanjay is known for his realistic and hard-hitting movies on social problems. “Stand By” is a film that emphasizes a major issue in Indian sports.
The director elaborates, “I have always believed in making films on subjects relevant to the society we live in. Politics being played in sports is a very big issue in our country.
So when Sagar Choube, my young producer came to me with the story, I was very impressed by the subject and his passion for sports. Both of us teamed up and thought of making a film with football as the backdrop to communicate the fact that sports should be played with sportsmanship, and the system of our games should be kept clean.” When asked about the star cast, he says, “I believe that the story is the hero, and it has to be something that will interest and entertain everyone.”
“Stand By” is slated to release in May this year, an extremely appropriate time as it coincides with the happy hangover of the country winning the recently concluded cricket world cup
