Suchitra Pillai on turning producer; thanks her friend for suggesting this move
Suchitra Pillai known for her work in films like Dil Chahta Hai, Page 3 and Fashion has taken to film production. The actress began her journey with the short film Who Are You, Nanu?? It’s the story of an eight-year-old Aisha who befriends the phantom of her Nanu’s boisterous 11-year-old self and discovers the journey after death.
Talking about her move, Suchitra says, “Frankly, the move happened without me even thinking much about it. The director of the film Anjini Azhar is the daughter of my college friend. I was trying to help her get in touch with other producers when one of my producer friends suggested to her that she should ask me for help because he thought I was ready for this journey.”
Suchitra feels that she learnt a lot producing her first project. She elaborates saying, “I realised that I have such sweet bunch of friends who went all out making the process easy for me by offering their expertise. I learnt that I’m capable of doing so much more than I knew I was. And that my friends and family who took on the roles of executive producers had so much belief in. Most importantly I learnt that team effort is all it takes to create magic.”
The film also won the title of Short of the Year 2024 at Short Films Matter. Talking about the big win at the awards that aim at celebrating shorts, Suchitra told us, “I am beyond elated to have beaten so many entries from all over the world in a prestigious competition like this. It’s quite a feat. Frankly, from the time I got involved with the film I knew we had something very special in our hands.”
