Sudipto Sen says he won’t produce films again after ‘Charak: Face of Faith’: ‘It’s tough, direction is where my strength lies’
Sudipto Sen has said he does not plan to produce films again. The filmmaker, known for the controversial hit ‘The Kerala Story,' opened up about his upcoming film ‘Charak: Face Of Faith’ and the lessons he learned from producing. He shared that the financial pressure and responsibility of production pushed him to rethink his role in filmmaking.
Speaking about his experience with production, Sen said he does not want to take on that responsibility again. “I will not produce again. It is a very tough job. When you produce a film, you carry the entire burden on your shoulders.”
He explained that directing allows him to stay focused on storytelling without the constant pressure of managing finances and logistics. “I want to concentrate on direction. That is where my strength lies,” he said.
Sen also stressed that ‘Charak: Face Of Faith’ is not meant to judge or sensationalize religious practices. Instead, the film aims to present the subject through a balanced narrative that encourages viewers to think about belief and tradition.
Sen shared that the film required extensive groundwork. “We did a lot of research. We spoke to people and studied the rituals closely before writing the script,” he said.
He also noted that films dealing with sensitive subjects demand careful storytelling. “When you deal with faith, you must be responsible. You cannot approach it casually,” he said.
Sen gained widespread attention after directing ‘The Kerala Story,' a film that sparked strong reactions and debate across the country. The project also performed strongly at the box office, which placed the director in the national spotlight.
