Suniel Shetty slams critics for doubting Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after two failures, 'Legends don’t have to prove a point'

Suniel Shetty has come out strongly in support of Indian cricket stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after the duo silenced critics with a match-winning partnership in the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. The Hera Pheri actor, who is known for his love for sports and candid takes, lauded both batters for letting their performance speak louder than the noise surrounding them.
Taking to Twitter, Shetty wrote, “It’s funny how quickly we forget... the records, the fights, the pride, the tears, the sacrifice. Two games and suddenly everyone’s a critic. They heard the noise. They read the doubts. They stayed silent... And let the bat do the talking. Because legends like Rohit & Virat don’t have to prove a point — They are the point.”

Kohli and Rohit silence critics in Sydney

After facing intense scrutiny over their recent performances, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returned to form in commanding fashion. Kohli, who was dismissed for consecutive ducks in the first two games, bounced back with an unbeaten 74, while Rohit led from the front with a majestic 121*. The two shared an unbroken 168-run stand to guide India to a nine-wicket victory, avoiding a series whitewash and reminding fans of their unmatched class.

Anushka Sharma was trolled amid Virat’s poor run

Interestingly, before Kohli’s stunning comeback, his wife and actor Anushka Sharma had faced online trolling from a section of users who blamed her for the cricketer’s poor form. Many of her fans, however, rallied in her defence, calling out the misogyny in such comments and urging people to separate an athlete’s performance from personal life.

Some fans even suggested that such relentless online negativity could be one of the reasons why Virat and Anushka prefer maintaining a private life and have chosen to spend more time in London with their children, Vamika and Akaay.



Virat and Anushka, who tied the knot in 2017 after years of dating, have always maintained a dignified silence amid social media chatter. The actress, last seen in Zero (2018), has not announced her next project after her sports drama Chakda ’Xpress was reportedly shelved.
