Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore inheritance feud: Why are Karisma Kapoor’s kids in court against Priya Kapur? All you need to know
Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband, Sunjay Kapur, passed away at the age of 53 while playing polo in the UK. With his sudden demise, the question of who would inherit his reportedly Rs 30,000 crore fortune became the centre of attention. Weeks after his demise, a document allegedly emerged showing that Sunjay had left all his assets to his current wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur. This triggered Karisma’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, to move to the Delhi High Court seeking their share. Here’s everything you need to know about this case
The siblings have filed a civil case saying Priya Kapur tried to forge their father’s will to take full control of his property. With Karisma acting as their legal guardian, the children are asking the court to divide the estate, provide a full list of all assets, and stop the defendants from selling or changing anything.
According to the plaintiff, “The children contend that they do not have complete information about their father’s assets at the time of his death.” They attached a schedule of known properties but accused Priya Kapur of hiding details and failing to disclose the full extent of the estate.
The children stated, “Our late father had repeatedly assured us of our financial security and future well-being. He had initiated business ventures in our names, acquired assets both personally and through corporate entities, and named us as beneficiaries of the family trust.” Samaira and Kiaan stated that until their father’s demise, they had a close relationship with him, including holidays together, frequent trips, and involvement in his business and personal milestones.
She added, “There were two doors, actually, a door inside and a door outside. So she couldn’t hear me. The bottom line is she signed some papers during the mourning period. My mother was in deep grief. She came to me and said, ‘I don’t know what papers I’ve signed. And since then, we’ve been asking and getting no response. So, what are you hiding from us? I think this will all unfold at some point, and the truth will come out.”
The High Court examined the will and returned it to Priya's lawyers but suggested it could be shared with the plaintiffs if they sign a non-disclosure agreement.
The legal battle has now brought the family’s internal dynamics into the spotlight, with both sides claiming the moral and legal high ground.
Karisma Kapoor is representing her children in the court
According to ANI, the legal dispute involves multiple parties. The plaintiffs are Samaira and Kiaan, represented in court by their mother, Karisma Kapoor. As Kiaan is a minor, Karisma is standing for him and trying to shield both her children from the media frenzy that often surrounds such high-profile cases. The siblings have filed a civil case saying Priya Kapur tried to forge their father’s will to take full control of his property. Court case filed against Priya Kapur and others
The suit has been filed against Priya Kapur, Sunjay’s widow, and her minor son. Both reside at the family’s farmhouse in Rajokri. The third defendant is Sunjay Kapur’s mother, who also lives at the same residence. The fourth defendant is a woman claiming to be the executor of the contested will.Children suspect that the will may have been forged
The children’s plea alleges that Priya Kapur initially denied the existence of any will, claiming that all of Sunjay’s assets were held under the R.K. Family Trust. However, she later presented a will dated March 21, 2025. The complaint suggests that this raised suspicions of forgery and manipulation. Sunjay was the founder and chairman of Sona Comstar, a leading auto parts manufacturer.Sister raises concerns about mother’s documents
Sunjay’s sister, Mandhira Kapur, also spoke out, sharing concerns about documents signed by their mother. “What papers are they not showing us that they’d gotten signed in this 13-day period that they’ve taken over? My mother was made to sign papers behind locked doors. And this wasn’t once, but twice,” she told Republic. She added, “There were two doors, actually, a door inside and a door outside. Delhi High Court orders Priya to disclose assets
During the hearing on 10 September 2025, the Delhi High Court, as reported by TOI’s City Desk, directed Priya Kapur to disclose all movable and immovable assets as of 12 June 2025, the date of Sunjay Kapur’s demise. Justice Jyoti Singh issued notice on the plea seeking interim relief and asked Priya to present the list within three weeks.Priya’s lawyer claims Karisma’s kids received assets worth Rs 1,900 crore
Priya’s counsel, senior advocate Rajiv Nayyar, admitted that the will was not registered but argued that it made no difference. He also revealed that just five days before the suit, Sunjay’s children received assets worth Rs 1,900 crore.Priya’s lawyer questions Karisma’s absence for last 15 years
On the claims of neglect, Nayyar added, “Where were you all this while? After getting Rs 1,900 crore worth of assets, you suddenly claim you haven’t got anything. You were nowhere to be seen for the last 15 years.”Children’s lawyer questions exclusion from will
Representing the children, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani highlighted the exclusion of Samaira and Kiaan as the most suspicious part of the will. “Sunjay Kapur was meticulous,” he said, urging the court to pass an interim order freezing any sale or alteration of assets until the matter is resolved.Karisma and Sunjay’s relationship
Karisma Kapoor married Sunjay Kapur in 2003. The couple had two children before officially divorcing in June 2016. Sunjay later married Priya Kapur in April 2017, and they had one child together.end of article
