Sunjay Kapur's sister shares a cryptic post on Raksha Bandhan amid bitter Rs 30000 crore property dispute: 'I am protecting what you wanted...'

Amid a bitter Rs 30,000-crore property dispute and deepening family rifts, Mandhira Kapur, sister of late businessman and Sona Comstar chairperson Sunjay Kapur, marked Raksha Bandhan with a heartfelt yet cryptic tribute to her brother.

Sharing a throwback picture of them together along with their monther, she wrote, 'It’s taken me all day to write this, as today has been especially difficult. As Raksha Bandhan winds down, placing flowers near your picture, I tried to stay composed while Mum cried.'

‘Protecting what you would have wanted’

She further added, 'The thread that binds us, invisible yet strong, remains unbroken, as eternal as our memories. I relive the moments spent with you, and now, I find myself protecting what you would have wanted, and what Dad dreamed, though it was always meant to be the other way around. If you were still here, everything would be different, everything would be better, my dear Bhaiya.'

Family feud

Mandhira’s cryptic post comes at a time of rising tensions at Sona Comstar. The family feud deepened after Sunjay Kapur’s death in London, which his mother, Rani Kapur, has described as “mysterious.” She has filed a criminal complaint with UK authorities, requesting an investigation.

In her first public statement, Rani Kapur expressed her grief, alleged that she was pressured into signing certain documents, and claimed she faced financial restrictions. She also raised concerns about how the company was managing its legacy. Sona Comstar has denied these allegations, stating that Rani has had no role in the company since 2019, and has sent her a legal notice over what it calls “false” claims.

Cause of death confirmed as natural

Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12 at Windsor's Guards Polo Club, with his death later determined to be from natural causes. Sources familiar with the official postmortem report said he died due to cardiac-related issues, with the autopsy revealing a significantly enlarged heart and thickened left ventricular walls. It also noted mild coronary artery disease, though there was no relevant medical history contributing to his death.

Medical experts identified Sunjay Kapur’s cause of death as Left Ventricular Hypertrophy and Ischaemic Heart Disease. The businessman, who was previously married to Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor and had two children with her, later wed Priya Sachdeva, with whom he had a son.
