Taapsee Pannu reveals why actors do not give their opinion on politics and other things in the country: 'Actors are believed to have low IQ'

Taapsee Pannu, a talented actress known for her roles in thought-provoking films such as 'Pink', 'Thappad', 'Badla', 'Saand Ki Aankh', 'Mulk', and 'Shabaash Mithu', has recently addressed the complex relationship between Bollywood actors and political discourse, highlighting the challenges they face in expressing their opinions.
In an interview with ANI, she elaborated on the reasons behind the prevalent silence among her peers regarding political matters, despite many holding strong personal views. The ‘Pink’ actress began by discussing the inherent politics within the film industry itself, which often transcends traditional political affiliations. She noted that actors frequently opt to remain silent on political issues due to the fear of backlash. “People want to stay quiet because they feel that way or this way there will be a problem,” she explained, emphasizing the pressure actors feel to conform to public expectations.

This silence is compounded by a stereotype that actors, particularly women, are perceived as lacking intelligence or awareness regarding social and political issues. Taapsee articulated this sentiment, stating, “Actors are believed to have low IQ and people think that they hardly know anything, especially if it is a woman. Then they think, how dare you have an opinion.” This stereotype creates a significant barrier for actors who might otherwise wish to engage in political discussions.
The ‘Dunki' actress pointed out the paradoxical nature of being a public figure in Bollywood. “It’s a double-edged sword, I feel. If you have an opinion, then also it’s a problem. If you don’t have an opinion, then also it’s a problem,” she remarked. This statement underscores the no-win situation that many actors find themselves in: regardless of whether they choose to speak out or remain silent, they are likely to face criticism.

Despite these challenges, Taapsee Pannu has established herself as one of the few actors willing to speak out on pressing social issues.

On the work front, Taapsee has been busy with her latest film, Khel Khel Mein, where she reunites with Akshay Kumar. The film features a star-studded cast, including Vaani Kapoor and Fardeen Khan.
