Terence Lewis names Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone among finest dancers, lauds Katrina Kaif's transformation: 'She didn’t have that figure and couldn't dance'
Choreographer Terence Lewis recently reflected on Katrina Kaif’s remarkable transformation as a dancer, applauding her dedication and hard work. In an interview with Pinkvilla, he shared memories of working with her after her debut film Boom, recalling how she initially struggled with dance due to a lack of formal training.
When asked about some of the finest dancers in Bollywood, Lewis acknowledged several names, highlighting Aishwarya Rai’s beauty and Deepika Padukone’s grace. However, he was particularly impressed with Katrina’s progress over the years.
Terence Lewis recalls Katrina Kaif’s early dance struggles
"Katrina Kaif, my god! That girl, when she came after Boom and I did a show with her, I was like, man! She didn’t have that figure, and she was not able to dance... The way she performed in Zara Zara Touch Me, I called up Bosco (Martis) and said, ‘What have you done?’ I couldn't believe it was the same person," he recalled.
Lewis went on to describe Katrina as one of the most hardworking actors in the industry. "She wasn’t a trained dancer, and she was very tall and well-built. But the way she has worked on her body, her dance, and her overall performance is commendable. I know this firsthand," he stated.
From Boom to Chikni Chameli: Katrina’s inspiring dance journey
Recalling their early days working together, Lewis shared how Katrina had visited his studio for a diamond jewellery show shortly after Boom was released. At the time, she was still adapting to Bollywood and found it challenging to pick up dance moves. "She was very new to India, unsure of what she was supposed to do. We kept the choreography more Western, but even then, she struggled with the rhythm. And then cut to Zara Zara Touch Me—I called Bosco and asked, ‘What have you done?’ He told me she worked extremely hard."
Lewis further praised her incredible journey, citing her performances in Chikni Chameli and other hit songs as proof of her dedication. "That girl has worked hard—that’s a great story," he concluded with a smile.
