A 16-year journey to the silver screen

The project, ’The Goat Life,’ was first signed by Prithviraj Sukumaran back in 2008 or 2009 to work with acclaimed Malayalam director Blessy. There are themes of survival in a desert and the film finally premiered in 2024, marking a total of 16 years from concept to note-worthy release. “My life has changed all through the years and through each of those eras, the only constant is that there is this film," Prithviraj said when looking back at the project.

Where to watch on OTT

‘The Goat Life’ is available now on Netflix if you missed seeing it in theaters. It is clear from its IMdb of 7.1 that it is has some accumulation of critical acclaim, yet at the box-office, it performed below expectations, reiterating that awards season holds it own kind of reputation in their respective reward season.

Box office performance

As per industry tracker Sacnilk, "The Goat Life" grossed Rs 157.35 crore globally. Within India, the collection was reported to be Rs 85.01 crore net and from the Overseas Market, Rs 59.5 crore. However, this was not enough to label the movie as a hit and it was pronounced to be a flop.

Challenges behind the scenes

Creating films is a tough art, which takes patience, time and dedication. Actors sometimes change their physical appearance for a role, while directors spend years researching and planning a movie. "The Goat Life" demonstrates that despite a ridiculous amount of effort and talent, films sometimes fail, which is a familiar aspect of this business.

Prithviraj’s ongoing work

The 43-year-old actor continues to be active in cinema. Recently seen in Kayoze Irani's 'Sarzameen', an action drama alongside Kajol and Ibrahim Ali Khan, the actor will now be seen in Prashanth Neel's 'Salaar 2'. For context, he directed his first feature film in 2019 with 'Lucifer' starring Mohanlal, Prabhas and Manju Warrier.
