In a 2008 interview with NDTV, Aishwarya was questioned about her perspective on being referred to as the Bahu of the Bachchan family and whether she believed the Bachchan surname influenced her identity. Responding to this, the actress asserted that she is simply an ordinary woman named Aishwarya Rai, who happened to marry Abhishek Bachchan.



Echoing similar sentiments, Aishwarya highlighted that due to the Bachchan family's long-standing presence in the public sphere, there's often discussion surrounding the surname. She emphasized that her marriage to Abhishek was rooted in their love and received parental blessings, independent of the prestige associated with the Bachchan name.
