Before they exchanged vows in 2012, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan experienced a whirlwind romance, that began in 2007. During a memorable appearance on Kareena's radio show last year, Saif shared a significant piece of advice he received from his close friend, Rani Mukerji, which proved invaluable as he navigated his relationship with Kareena.

Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji have starred in several films over the years. Their on-screen collaborations include Hum Tum (2004), Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007), Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (2008), and most recently, Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2021). Beyond their professional partnership, Saif and Rani share a close friendship off-screen as well.

Saif opened up about the wisdom Rani imparted to him, which has helped shape his relationship with Kareena to this day. Saif stated, “I remember what Rani told me once when we had just started dating, you and I. Because I’ve never, I don’t think I had ever been out with a working actress before, in that sense. So she said, ‘Just behave like you are in a relationship with a man’”.

“She meant that don’t get into the gender of it. Treat it like equal, like you’ve got two heroes in the house. Two people working and then you will have no problems. And I think she is absolutely right,” Saif added.

Saif admitted that he grasped the essence of Rani's words immediately and still reflects on that advice occasionally. "It's about two equals making a positive contribution to the house. One is taking care of the kids while the other works," he explained.

"I understand it now. It was excellent advice, touching upon the complexities of gender roles. She was addressing the question of whether it's acceptable for a wife to work extensively while the husband takes care of the household. What she meant was, of course, it is acceptable! Offer her the respect of equality – that's what she was emphasizing."

Saif and Kareena's marriage has been a testament to Rani's wise words. The couple has successfully navigated the challenges of being working actors while raising their two children, Taimur and Jeh, with mutual respect and support.
