It all started in 2019 when Rhea Chakraborty took to social media to wish Mahesh Bhatt on his 70th birthday with an unseen picture. She captioned it as, “Happy birthday to my Buddha @maheshfilm. Sir, this is us you held me with love, you showed me love, and you have unclipped my wings forever, you are the “heart hitting ” fire that ignites every soul it comes by! Words fail me I love you credits @suhritadas @poojab1972." Although Rhea has already deleted the post, it had grabbed a lot of attention from the netizens.

After Rhea Chakraborty and Mahesh Bhatt’s pictures created stir on the internet, the actress hit back the social media trolls with another post featuring Bhatt. She wrote, “Tu kaun hain, Tera naam hain kya? Seeta bhi yahaan badnaam hui! If the trolls can hurl muck and filth of their minds, which comes out of their depraved souls, then all our claims of having moved away from the dark ages are bogus. Interview with Mahesh Bhatt
Rhea Chakraborty in a previous interview opened up about being upset with the social media trolls and made several revelations on her “father” like relationship with Mahesh Bhatt. She further called him her “mentor”, "influencer" and added that she has been “baptised by Mahesh Bhatt." In the same interview where Bhatt was also present, he stated that he is not responsible for people think of him with Rhea.

During the ‘Jalebi’ release
While the poster of Rhea’s rom-com flick ‘Jalebi’ had already attracted controversies for its poster, Rhea reposted a picture with her ‘Jalebi’ team that read, “It was only when I trashed my idea of fairy-tale endings did I develop the capacity to find and claim myself... with the cast & crew of #Jalebi... a film after my own heart! ❤️” Speaking about the film, she once revealed in a interview that Bhatt has been a positive support for her in the sets and he is the one who only wanted to remove “masks” from people to see their true self. She also talked about how the perspective of love has changed for her which might lead to staying single for the rest of her life.
