Kangana Ranaut's recent remark on India's freedom has sparked debates and received a lot of flak from the masses. The actress had reportedly said that "freedom struggle and Independence were 'khairat' (alms) that the Indians got from the British", triggering a widespread controversy.

Now, Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson Tushar Gandhi has reacted to Kangana's comments. He said that her comment demeans the courage and sacrifice of thousands of freedom fighters. He added that those who allege that Gandhians only turn the other cheek and are, therefore, cowards cannot understand the courage required to be so brave. They are incapable of understanding such heroism. He went on to say that we must not forget, to turn the other cheek, is not the act of a coward. It takes a lot of courage, and Indians of that time displayed it in abundance.

During an interview, Ranaut had severely criticised Mahatma Gandhi, who devoted his life to free India from British rule.

On the other hand, even after receiving massive criticism, the actress has decided to stay firm on her statement and also said that she would return her Padma Shri and apologise if anyone could prove her wrong.
