Shukla, who is currently promoting his next fim, 'Aankh Micholi', recounted his experience working with the Bollywood superstar and shed light on his initial apprehensions about taking on the role of Lord Krishna in the 2012 film.

The filmmaker reminisced about the time he first worked with Akshay, as a writer for his films like 'Hera Pheri,' 'Aawara Pagal Deewana,' 'Deewane Hue Pagal,' and 'Ajnabee' (among others). "I knew him (before casting him in OMG)," he said to Hindustan Times and added that it was because of Paresh Rawal's friendship with Akki that enabled him to get in touch with him for the OMG.

Recalling the time he approached the superstar to play the role of Lord Krishna, he said that Akshay initially had his reservations. Recalling his reaction to the role, he said, "'This is a God, how will I play God's character?'"

He went on to add that Akshay was in a 'double mind' at that time because another film ('God Tussi Great Ho') that featured Amitabh Bachchan as a God did not quite work at the box office. "So he (Akshay) thought 'How will I play God's character when Bachchan sir could not?'"

However, he agreed to do the film after he saw Umesh Shukla's play on which the film was based.

Umesh Shukla's upcoming film 'Aankh Micholi', boasts of a star-studded cast including Abhimanyu Dassani, Paresh Rawal, Mrunal Thakur, Divya Dutta, Vijay Raaz, Abhishek Banerjee, and Sharman Joshi.
