The Uttar Pradesh government declared 29 films
tax free
between January 1, 2012, and February 24, 2016, reveals information provided by Arvind Singh, Public Information Officer of Institutional Finance Department, to activist Nutan Thakur under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

Nutan has alleged that most of these films have been granted tax free status without any reason and without following the required procedure, leading to loss to the state exchequer.
