Vicky Kaushal reacts to backlash on his viral 'wife jokes' video from a wedding: 'There is no way that just because you’re a public figure..'

Earlier this year, for the first time, Vicky Kaushal was under scrutiny on social media as he was criticised for making 'wife jokes'. In a viral video, Vicky was on stage with the bride and groom, as he was attending a wedding. He asked the groom on stage, "Sir, mujhe aap se ek hi sawal poochna hai. How’s the josh?” The audience erupted in cheers as the actor recreated the dialogue that became iconic after the film’s release.Encouraged by the crowd’s reaction, Vicky continued with a light-hearted remark about married life. Turning to the audience, he added, “Dekha? Humesha maine yeh dekha hai bachelors ka josh humesha high rehta hai. Hum shaadhishuda waalo ke toh thode se josh (made a hand gesture like a crashing plane) saal bhar saal… Actually Akash ko tension lene ki zarurat nahi hai, 4 din mein josh kum nahi hota. Haina? But ek baar main chahta hun aap groom se pooche ‘how’s the josh’, and we all know what to say: ‘high sir’. Correct?”Vicky's wife joke faced some backlash and some even said that, "If ranbir had said this, there would have been numerous reels, podcasts, posts on x , reddit and Instagram telling us all how he is the worst husband ever." Meanwhile, months after this, Vicky has now broken silence on the backlash. He said in an interview with The Nod Magazine, "There is no way that just because you’re a public figure, you need to be perfect. Sometimes we do deserve the brickbats, and maybe the learning there for me is that, as much as people are giving me love, it also comes with a certain sense of responsibility."Speaking further about fame and public scrutiny, the actor added, “No actor has gotten fame and not gotten the flip side of it. I made the conscious choice that I wanted to be here, and the Universe is reciprocating. Now it’s on me how I handle [the fame]. And if the criticism is constructive, you can learn from it."On work front, Vicky was last seen in 'Chhaava'. Vicky also became a father last year as him and Katrina Kaif welcomed a baby boy in November 2025. Vicky is currently working on 'Love And War', which will see him with Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.
