Vidhu Vinod Chopra was a part of a panel discussion at Jaipur Literature Fest where he spoke his heart out about his. Reminiscing his childhood days in Kashmir, the filmmaker said, “God willing, I would make a film school in Kashmir so that the children there like me can study. My father was not very well off and I could not go to a film institute. I took 200 rupees from my brother who took up a job then. We very struggling with finances and I still remember, I would starve and eat two bananas. This is where I have come from and that’s why I really hope that I open this school in Kashmir”. Vidhu Vinod Chopra will return to direction with ‘Shikara - The Untold Story of Kashmiri Pandits’. The trailer of the film was well received. The filmmaker stated that ‘Shikara’ was attribute to his late mother.
Talking about the upcoming film, the director stated that he has kept the storyline of ‘Shikara’ as authentic as possible. Earlier, the filmmaker had expressed that he was the film to look real and hence has shot with the inhabitants of Jagti refugee camp and the other camps, thus bringing authenticity to the film.
Set in 1990, ‘Shikara’ will narrate the story of Kashmiri pandits from the valley. The film slated to hit the screens on February 7.
