Vikram Bhatt and wife denied bail, Hema Malini reveals why two prayer meetings were held for Dharmendra, Deepika Padukone talks about rom-com with Ranbir Kapoor: Top 5 newsmakers of the day
On January 6, 2026, the film industry was abuzz with major headlines. Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt were denied bail, while Hema Malini explained why multiple prayer meetings were organised for Dharmendra. Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone broke her silence on the growing demand for a rom-com with Ranbir Kapoor, and Ramayana producer Namit Malhotra shared a behind-the-scenes picture featuring AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer.
The Rajasthan High Court has declined to grant bail to filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt in a fraud case originating from Udaipur, keeping them in judicial custody as the investigation continues. The couple had sought temporary relief and the quashing of the FIR, but the bench rejected their plea, observing that the complaint points to more than a mere contractual dispute.
Justice Sameer Jain noted that the allegations suggest intentional diversion and misuse of funds, along with a lack of transparency. According to PTI, “The allegations are not confined merely to non-performance of a contract; they involve deliberate diversion of funds, lack of transparency, and elements of dishonesty. The preliminary inquiry has revealed evidence of fake invoices and the circulation of funds.”
After Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, two separate prayer meetings were held, sparking speculation about discord within the family. Initially, his first wife Prakash Kaur and their children—Sunny, Bobby, Ajeita, and Vijeta—organised a prayer meet in Mumbai, which Hema Malini and her daughters Esha and Ahana did not attend.
Later, Hema Malini, along with Esha and Ahana, organised separate prayer meetings in Mumbai, Delhi, and Mathura, leading to rumours of a family rift. Addressing these claims in an interview with us (TOI), Hema dismissed the speculation, saying, “Yeh humare ghar ka personal mamla hai (This is our family’s personal matter).”
She further explained, “We spoke to each other. I kept one prayer meet at my home because my group of people is different. Then I organised one in Delhi because I am in politics, and it was important to hold a prayer meeting there for my friends from that field. Mathura is my constituency, and the people there are mad about him. So I held a prayer meeting there as well. I am happy with what I did.”
Deepika Padukone recently hosted a small pre-birthday meet with her fans, where she engaged in a candid conversation about her life and career. During the interaction, she also addressed the growing demand for her return to the romantic comedy genre.
In a video from the event, Deepika reads out a fan’s question: “When are we seeing you in a rom-com again?” She responds, “I really hope very, very soon. As you all know, it is also one of my most favourite genres as an audience member and as an actor.”
She added that while she feels audiences are currently looking for something different, the repeated demand for rom-coms indicates a strong desire for the genre. When fans suggested potential co-stars such as Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika smiled and said, “We have spoken about it, honestly…” before a fan jokingly suggested she romance both actors, prompting laughter and cheers.
Ramayana producer Namit Malhotra marked AR Rahman’s birthday by sharing a behind-the-scenes studio photograph featuring himself, the Oscar-winning composer, and legendary musician Hans Zimmer. The post offered fans a rare glimpse into the making of the ambitious project.
Sharing the image, Namit wrote, “Celebrating the genius @arrahman and his big day today. Memories of my life are etched in his music and continue to remind me of my friends, my family, my country and my essence. May you be blessed with even greater divinity and SARGAM, to build a future of even greater music than you have in your past. Can’t wait to bring your magic together with @HansZimmer to the world…”
Filmmaker Priyadarshan has reacted to Arshad Warsi’s comments about having a difficult experience working on Hulchul (2004), admitting that the remarks left him hurt and shocked. Arshad had said in an interview with Lallantop that he did not enjoy working on the film and felt his role was much smaller than initially promised.
Speaking to Mid-Day, Priyadarshan said, “I was very upset. I could be wrong and maybe it has been misinterpreted, but if he has said that, I am shocked. After the release, he called me and said, ‘Priyan sir, I never thought I would get this kind of appreciation.’ Hulchul was a big hit, but Arshad said it was a flop film. That has pained me. Why would he say that when it was one of my hit films?”
