Ranveer Singh's ‘Dhurandhar’ has rocked cinemas for 40 days now. The spy action film by Aditya Dhar stays strong before part two on March 19. Meanwhile,
Vir Das brings his fun spy comedy ‘Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos.’ He plays a fake British spy sent to India on a secret job. It's also his first time directing with Kavi Shastri. Vir Das co-wrote it; it was made by Aamir Khan Productions and Amogh Ranadive.
Comedy's edge over action
When asked how his directorial debut will perform amid cinemas still buzzing with ‘Dhurandhar,’ Vir Das told NDTV that Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos's genre will work in its favor. "People want to laugh more than they want to get angry and cry. When you're done with your seriousness, come into the theater; let us lighten your mood a little bit..." he said, adding that he will watch 'Dhurandhar' soon.

Faith in comedy fans
Vir Das, an International Emmy-winning comedian, expressed confidence in audiences who regularly go out for comedy. "If you think about it, you don't leave your house for action and drama that much. But when you are watching comedy with people in a theater, it's another kind of experience. Comedy is a collective human experience. That's why, say from a
Zakir Khan to a Ricky Gervais to me, we are able to pack up these rooms because people really want to sit in a room with others and laugh.
There will also be an audience for comedy. It might not be massive, but it exists," he added.
Untapped comedy markets
He believes college students and Instagram-YouTube fans lack good theatrical comedies and said, "Largely, theatrical comedies tend to be these tentpole, very broad comedies. But that 'Delhi Belly' or 'Go Goa Gone' audience, you got to make comedies for them too; they are massive."
Star-studded cast
‘Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos’ also stars Mona Singh, Mithila Palkar, Imran Khan, Sharib Hashmi, and Srushti Tawade, with Aamir Khan in an extended cameo.
